A day of water slides with the children is really a day you plan around the journey home: after hours in the water nobody wants to drive, and nobody wants to circle a full car park in August either. Yet the Gironde and the Atlantic coast around Bordeaux hold some of the largest water parks in south-west France. Here is where to go — and how to get there without the logistics ruining the day.
Closest to Bordeaux
La Calinésie — Libourne
A large aquatic centre with both indoor and outdoor areas: play pools, a 75 m slide and a leisure lagoon. The advantage is that the covered section is open all year round, which makes it a reliable choice off-season or when the forecast is uncertain. The open-air summer water park (pentagliss racing slides, two flumes, a lazy river with rings) runs from mid-June to the end of August. Well suited to younger children.
Aqualand Bassin d’Arcachon — Gujan-Mestras
One of the largest water parks on the Atlantic coast, right beside Arcachon Bay. Big slides, a river and dedicated areas for small children make it a full-day destination in the summer season. It pairs naturally with a stop at the Bay on the way back.
On the water: giant inflatable parks
Splash Park — Lacanau and Hourtin
These XXL inflatable assault courses float directly on the big coastal lakes: at Le Moutchic on Lake Lacanau, and on Lake Hourtin. More than twenty structures — slides, trampolines, climbing walls, catapults — which teenagers and older children love. Open from age 7 (7 to 10-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult), life jacket provided and lifeguards on permanent watch. 2026 season: 20 June to 6 September, in slots of one to two hours. Aventures Sud Gironde — Bazas
The winning combination for active families: a treetop adventure course and an inflatable aquapark on a 7,200 m² lake with 45 obstacles. The site also has paintball, laser tag and mini-golf across four hectares. Two things to know: the aquapark opens in July and August only, and it is open from age 6, provided the child can swim (life jacket compulsory).

Atlantic Park — Seignosse (Landes)
Heading south into the Landes, Atlantic Park is a large open-air water park that combines well with an afternoon on the beach. Allow roughly two hours’ drive: that distance makes it a genuine day excursion, and precisely the kind of trip where being driven changes everything — the children doze on the way home and you arrive rested.
