Arcachon Bay remains the number one tourist destination for Bordeaux residents: 200 km² of water, more than 30 coastal towns between the northern and southern tips, and a natural heritage that peaks with the Dune du Pilat, the most visited natural site in mainland France. Whether you live in downtown Bordeaux, Caudéran, the right bank or outlying towns such as Mérignac and Pessac, the Bay is your most natural weekend and day getaway. Second homes on the northern side, oyster huts, Atlantic beaches, morning markets: each town around the Bay has its own atmosphere, and many of our clients visit two or three of them in a single day.
The problem is the journey. The A63 and the A660 get saturated as soon as the good weather arrives, parking at the major tourist sites (Dune du Pilat, tip of Cap Ferret, Thiers pier in Arcachon) is almost non-existent in high season, and the end-of-day return is often made while tired, sometimes after a long oyster lunch. Bordeaux Privilège offers you a turnkey solution: a private chauffeur who picks you up at your Bordeaux address, drives you directly to your Bay destination, can wait for you on site and even move you between several spots during the day, and brings you back stress-free at the end of the day. This article details the service, the destinations covered, indicative pricing and answers the most frequent questions we receive.

Why Arcachon Bay from Bordeaux with a private chauffeur
Three concrete reasons lead our clients to choose a dedicated transfer rather than their own car for their day at the Bay. None of them is trivial, and they all become critical in high season, all around the Bay — southern side as well as northern side.
Avoiding the saturated road — A660 and D106 in summer
The A660 (towards Arcachon, La Teste, Pyla) and the D106 (towards Andernos, Arès, Lège-Cap-Ferret via the north) are the two main routes linking Bordeaux to the Bay. Both become saturated as soon as the fine weather arrives. Saturday mornings and late-afternoon returns regularly see 1h30 to 2h30 of travel instead of the standard 1h00 to 1h30, with even more severe peaks on long-weekend bridges and during July and August.
Entrusting your trip to a private chauffeur does not remove the traffic, but it spares you the stress of driving, leaves you free to enjoy the scenery and lets you check real-time conditions on the official Bison Futé website, as a passenger rather than a driver. The chauffeur knows the alternative routes (via Audenge and the D3 on the northern side, via Biganos and the D650 on the southern side) and adapts if necessary to save you time.
Almost non-existent parking at tourist sites
Whether you are aiming for the Dune du Pilat, the tip of Cap Ferret, the Thiers pier in Arcachon, the port of Andernos on a market day or the oyster huts of Arès, you face a simple reality: there are very few parking spaces near the points of interest. The available car parks fill up from 9:00 am in high season, and it is not uncommon to circle for 30 to 45 minutes before finding a spot, sometimes more than a kilometre on foot from the intended destination.
With a private chauffeur, you are dropped off as close as possible to the point of interest you have chosen, with no parking worries. The chauffeur parks elsewhere or waits according to the agreed programme. You save time, unnecessary walking and a lot of nervous energy, particularly appreciated when travelling with children, seniors or bulky luggage (cool boxes, beach toys, parasols).
A relaxed return in the evening after a long day
After a beach day, a long oyster-restaurant session or a climb up the Dune du Pilat at sunset, fatigue builds up. Getting back behind the wheel for 50 to 75 km of road at the end of the day, sometimes at night, is one of the worst moments of a Bay getaway. The road safety figures on the tourist routes of the Gironde show that summer returns concentrate a disproportionate share of material and bodily accidents, notably on the A63 and the D106.
With our service, you get back into the car relaxed, your children can sleep in the back, and you arrive home rested. The chauffeur adapts to your return time: no pressure on the end of your meal or your swim. To prepare your day, take a look at the forecasts from Météo-France, which remain the reference tool for conditions around the Bay and their rapid variations between the southern and northern shores.
The Arcachon Bay destinations covered
Arcachon Bay cannot be reduced to a single town. It stretches over nearly 80 km of coastline and brings together around ten towns that differ greatly in atmosphere and how busy they are. Here are the five main areas where we regularly drop you off, with their specific features.
Arcachon town and Pereire beaches
The town of Arcachon is the historic gateway to the Bay, on the southern shore. There you find the Thiers pier and its landing stage for maritime links to Cap Ferret and the Île aux Oiseaux, the seafront and its Belle Époque atmosphere, and further west the Pereire beach, quieter and family-friendly. Arcachon is also an excellent base to radiate out towards the Pyla and the Dune in half a day.
Bordeaux-Arcachon distance: about 65 km, i.e. 1h00 to 1h15 of road outside traffic. For detailed tourist information (events, markets, landing stages), consult the Arcachon Bay tourism portal.
Pyla-sur-Mer and the Dune du Pilat
Located in the town of La Teste-de-Buch, the Dune du Pilat rises to 110 m and offers the most emblematic view of the Bay: Arcachon inlet, Arguin sandbank, tip of Cap Ferret opposite, and the Landes forest behind. It is the most visited natural site in mainland France, with nearly 2 million visitors a year. The village of Pyla-sur-Mer, just to the north, offers family beaches and restaurants facing the Bay.
Bordeaux-Pyla distance: about 70 km, i.e. 1h10 to 1h30 depending on traffic. The official Dune du Pilat website publishes access conditions, paid-parking hours and busy periods to avoid in real time.
Cap Ferret and the northern peninsula
The tip of Cap Ferret closes the Bay on the western side with its emblematic lighthouse, its oyster port and its restaurants facing the inlet. Further north on the peninsula, the villages of l’Herbe, le Canon, Piraillan and Claouey offer a more discreet atmosphere, with listed colourful huts and easy access to the cycle path that crosses the whole peninsula.
Bordeaux-Cap Ferret (tip) distance: about 65 km via the D106, i.e. 1h15 to 1h30. To prepare your peninsula day, the Lège-Cap Ferret tourist office remains the most reliable resource.
Andernos, Arès and Lège-Cap-Ferret
The northern shore of the Bay has a more family and residential feel, popular with Bordeaux residents who own a second home there. Andernos-les-Bains offers the longest pier on the Bay, a renowned morning market and calm beaches. Arès charms with its oyster port and its working huts. Lège-Cap-Ferret gathers the villages of Claouey, le Four and Piraillan, an ideal starting point to explore the peninsula by bike.
Bordeaux-Andernos distance: about 50 km via the D106, i.e. 55 minutes to 1h10 depending on traffic. It is the area of the Bay that is fastest to reach from Bordeaux. For markets and events, the Arcachon Bay tourism portal centralises up-to-date information.
Biganos, connecting regional-train station
Biganos, at the south-eastern tip of the Bay, plays a special role: its Facture-Biganos regional-train station is the main rail connection in the area. Many of our clients drop off a relative there who takes the train to Bordeaux or Bayonne, or come to pick up someone arriving from Paris via Bordeaux Saint-Jean. It is also a useful town as a pivot point to quickly reach Arcachon, the Pyla or Andernos depending on the rest of the programme.
Bordeaux-Biganos distance: about 50 km, i.e. 50 minutes to 1h00. If your final trip is airport or station rather than the Bay, see our dedicated pages Bordeaux-Mérignac airport transfer and corporate transport.
Our Bordeaux ↔ Arcachon Bay service
Our Arcachon Bay offer is calibrated for a turnkey experience: you tell us your departure address, your precise destination on the Bay, your desired return time, and we take care of everything else. Here is how it works in practice.
Pick-up at your address in Bordeaux
The chauffeur arrives at your exact address at the agreed time: your home, your hotel, your holiday place or even your workplace if you leave directly after a morning. No artificial meeting point to reach. You get into the car, your luggage is loaded (beach bags, cool boxes, suitcases for a short stay, child equipment), and the trip starts immediately towards the Bay destination you have chosen.
Our main fleet is made up of spacious SUVs for groups of up to 4 passengers. For extended families or groups of friends of 5 to 7 people, a 7-seater van is available on request, to be booked far enough in advance — particularly in July and August when demand for the Bay is very high. Our service is open 7 days a week.
Waiting on site possible — full-day availability
For a day at the Bay, you can choose between two formulas. Either a simple round trip: we drop you off on arrival, we leave, and we come back to pick you up at a time and point agreed in advance. Or an at-your-disposal arrangement with waiting on site: the chauffeur stays available throughout your day, can move you between the tip, the village and the beach if your programme provides for it, and brings you back when you decide.
The at-your-disposal formula is hugely popular with our clients as a couple or family who want total freedom without the slightest logistics. The round-trip formula remains more economical if your programme is fixed and your return time is known in advance. We advise you according to your profile at the time of booking, accessible directly via our online contact form or by phone.
Drop-off and pick-up at several spots during the day
Arcachon Bay lends itself particularly well to multi-spot days. Many of our clients string together, for example: Dune du Pilat in the morning for the view before the heat, oyster lunch in Andernos or Arès, afternoon on the beach at Pyla-sur-Mer or the ocean beaches of Cap Ferret. Our chauffeur transports you from one point to another according to your programme, without you having to drive or look for parking at each stage.
For night returns (dinner at the oyster village, extended sunset on the Dune), no supplement is applied until midnight. Beyond that, a slight night adjustment applies and is communicated transparently to you before confirmation. The pricing details can be consulted on our contact page.

FAQ — Arcachon Bay transfer
What is the maximum waiting time of the chauffeur on site?
In the at-your-disposal formula, the chauffeur stays at your service for the full time slot you have booked (half-day or day). If you extend on the spot, the adjustment is negotiated directly by phone or WhatsApp, subject to the chauffeur’s schedule. In the round-trip formula, we set a precise pick-up time in advance, adjustable up to two hours before if needed.
What payment methods do you accept?
Bank card (Visa, Mastercard) at the end of the trip or via a secure link, cash on request, bank transfer for business bookings. No deposit is required for one-off trips below 400 EUR. For multi-spot days in high season, a deposit may be requested at booking to block the date.
Can I change my booking at the last minute?
Yes. Minor changes (pick-up address, return time, change of Bay destination) are free up to 24 hours before the trip, subject to availability. Cancellations are also free up to 24 hours before for standard trips. In very busy periods (July-August, long weekends), we request confirmation 48 hours before departure.
There are 6 of us with bulky luggage, is that possible?
Yes, the 7-seater van on request covers exactly this scenario. Six passengers and a generous boot for cool boxes, parasols, beach bags, child equipment and even folding bikes. For groups of 8 people and more, we coordinate multi-vehicle convoys (SUV + van, or two vans) that leave together and stay grouped on arrival at the Bay.
Do you accept pets?
Small dogs and cats in a bag or transport crate are accepted at no extra charge, on declaration at the time of booking. Medium or large dogs are accepted under conditions (protective cover provided, possible supplement), to be validated beforehand by phone.
